Outline for the Forum from

Dr Nazar M. S. Numan, Provost, The American University of Kurdistan

Founded as a not-for-profit higher learning institution in 2014, The American University of Kurdistan (AUK) aims to mold the next generation of leaders through challenging coursework, up-to-date methodologies, and exceptional faculty. Located in the Duhok Governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, the university is fast becoming the region’s preeminent institution of higher education.

“The consolidation of the state of production, consumption of goods and services as well as the supply of finance in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq requires diversification of the economy away from the oil and gas sector. The role of climate-friendly modern technologies including the digital revolution cannot be emphasized enough. Two approaches need to be considered here :

  1. Synergistic approach for individual establishments through improving units within an establishment and enhancing synergy between the individual units
  2. Financial and integrated approach aimed at exploring ways and means of reinvigorating the private sector, development of agriculture, attracting international investors and development of the tourism sector and services.”
